Mumblecore

A quick analysis could find other reasons why I enjoy “bedhead cinema” or “Slackavettes” movies, but I prefer to say it’s because, they'll float a couple lines that totally slay me and thereby justify the entire running time, deal rawly with the basic relationship dynamic, and set the production bar so low that I can easily daydream about creating one. I wouldn't recommend mumblecore to most people and I wouldn't plug some of the films to anyone, but it’s a genre on which I’m always willing to risk a couple hours.

I don’t love Wes Anderson as much as some people, but I understand their attachment. Wes scratches and itch that, post Hal Ashby, no other cinema reached. Maybe Wes Anderson films are great or maybe they were just incredibly refreshing for what they induced in to a quirkless world. Even if you think your first mumblcore experience was horrible I would propose that it was a fresh horrible.

At it’s best the genre is ambitious and incredibly successful in what it sets out to achieve. The laudation in the trailers is overblown, but I remain inexplicably won over by the three titles below.
