I owe a lot to Stephen Metcalf’s 2007 Slate article. In it he gave me my favorite artist of the oughts, Jens Lekman, and pushed Nina Simone to critical mass by including her in his top three artists ever. After hearing a "Sinnerman" remix at a resturant last week I was consumed with the urge to foist this list on you. If someone told me that "My Baby Just Cares For Me" is the best song ever, I would have a hard time arguing with them.
